What I learned this weekend

I had heard long ago that rubbing alcohol will take acrylic paint off of clothes and paintbrushes that have dried up.  Well I have never been able to get this to work.  I have soaked them and scrubbed them and just never had much luck.  This weekend I started a paint project while my little one was asleep.  Just simple Christmas trees for my mantle.  Well, I opened my paint box and discovered several paintbrushes with paint on the end-I don't remember doing anything like this, it must have been some evil art goblin causing mischief and mayhem.  Anyway, I completed my painting for the afternoon and remembered reading a while back that Murphy's Oil Soap would clean old paint out of brushes.  I decided what could it hurt.  Well to my surprise it worked.  I let them soak, diluted in water because this stuff is thick, for about an hour and then used a toothbrush to comb through the bristles.  Worked like a charm!  Old brushes like new again.  I think this may come in handy this year with some of the brushes here in the art room.

  1. Great tip! Thanks. Now I just need a way to get the acrylic out of students' uniforms without them having to change. If you come across anything, let me know! :)
